Is My Writing Connecting With You — Because That Matters to Me
I’m going to be honest: I’m not sure that’s happening right now.
It’s 1am. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what makes writing meaningful. You can write to write or write to resonate.
Writing that actually means something. That moves something in you — even if it’s quiet, even if it’s complicated. Or even if it is not.
But I’m going to be honest: I’m not sure that’s happening right now.
I’m not trying to be on some fishing expedition for compliments or engagement. I really want my substack to be something deeper. Something I owe you if I claim to build community here: honesty about how the work feels.
Because I don’t just want to write to write. I write to reach. And if it’s not reaching you — if it’s falling flat, missing tone, missing timing, missing your actual life — then we’re not building anything real.
And that’s not the kind of space I want to hold.
Don’t get me wrong, I have over 1,000 subscribers across publications and I’m grateful for every one of them. I also know people with less subscribers than me, working to do more - together.
So I’m asking:
What’s landing with you?
What feels distant?
Do my sections make sense on Substack?
What would make this space feel truly worth your time, your inbox, your attention?
What have I written about that you connect with the most?
If you’ve felt disconnected — say so. If something I wrote pissed you off — tell me. If you’ve been moved but stayed silent — I’d love to hear that too.
This only works if we build it together. I’m listening. I’ve been working my entire adult life to elevate voices, but I’ve only recently gotten back to writing consistently.
Tell me how I can be better, for me, for you, and for all of us.
Hi, I find your writing meaningful. It draws me in. I especially loved your Easter piece; it brought so much justice to heart.
I am willing to dive into different aspects of the heart with you .
This is a time for reflection on the past, but also looking forward to a unified future with security, which is so very lacking right now. I believe we, as a people, are frightened.... frightened of what will become of us and our Democracy.
Thank you.
I enjoy reading your content. Much of it resonates with me. I often don't completely understand or know how to get my point across politically in a political way because I don't really resonate with or understand the political system completely, so me a major introvert who has major depression and anxiety, including social anxiety is often to scared to speak up or speak out in fear of sounding like an uneducated idiot, therefore I stay in my own little corner letting those of you who understand the political systems better do the speaking and send good energy vibes to those of you who are in hopes you are able to reach people and make a change for the betterment of the world and humanity as a whole. Keep up the good work as I am staying burritoed up in my cozy blanket rooting and cheering you on from a distance!
